Summing up the blogosphere’s opinions of the Kook’s new album, Konk.
(We would offer our own opinions, but (confession!) none of us have actually listened to it…oops. So take your advice from these guys, instead!)
Round Hole Square Peg: The album shows “much musical maturity right off the bat.”
Subtle Nuances: The Kooks make “beachy, catchy, singalong rock…[their sound] reminds me of chocolate.”
Gentleman of Leisure: ”They push too hard at times, from the crappy poseur-rock of ‘Do You Wanna’ to the vapid cheese-fest ‘Shine On,’ which—surprise!—has already found its way into a Michelob Ultra commercial.”
See the Sun: ” The guitar throughout the entire record was impressive to say the least…[but]…Inside In/Inside Out was just far superior lyrically.”
Mongo Nation: “Put down that over-hyped copy of Vampire Weekend and get Konk instead.” Ok…OBJECTION.
The Album Project: “‘Konk’ gives off the impression that The Kooks are very aware of the wide audience they’ll be reaching with the songs and have written accordingly.”
This is Just a Modern Rock Blog: “Second album…lacks much of the snap and fire that made their debut such a power pop pleasure…”
Kevchino: “I’m not sure who encouraged [lead singer Luke Pritchard's] voice-cracking-as-singing-style, but…it’s exceedingly irritating.”
The Music Inferno: “Basically it’s just the same as their debut album ‘Inside In/Inside Out.’”
Orange Juice Party Noise: ”…Their songwriting has improved drastically.”

Ouch. Some of those reviews need to be reviewed.
This is one of the best bands of the year and I’m not the only one who thinks so – just attend ONE concert and you will understand the hype.
If anything, this band is hugely underrated and deserve a push into the spotlight. The world needs more of the Kooks’ music.
