Who the hell is this Kid Sister person? And how did she manage to get 2187262 myspace page views without me ever having heard one of her songs?
What, I have to seek you out myself now, Kid Sis? YEAH, not happening, unless you suddenly have a change of heart and put a few free downloads on your myspace. And while you’re there, you can do a little more troubleshooting for me. When your page opened up the first song immediately started playing, which is nice and normal, but THEN when I got bored/annoyed and decided to turn it off, I pressed pause and it KEPT PLAYING.
No joke. And after scouring the page for like fifteen whole seconds to try to find the source of this thing, I had to just give up and listen to your “music.” Which is okay, I guess.
But seriously guys, where did this new white-electro-girl-rap genre come from? I’m a little surprised that Kid Sister (whom I’m assuming is British; American whities are still struggling in this post-KFed world) managed to make it this far.
But I have a theory.
Think about this: A few years ago, an even rappier white female British rapper, Lady Sovereign, got played on The O.C. Voila, she had the entire O.C. audience (which was by that time, like, ten people) at her fingertips. Perhaps Kid Sister’s recent shoutout in Nylon magazine did the same for her: suddenly, the whole Urban Outfitters crowd is worshipping at her feet. That magazine is like a cult, I swear to God.
But whatevs. However you did it, KS, it is kind of impressive. So congrats on your 2187262 myspace page views, “grrrl.”
UPDATE: That mysterious song that I couldn’t turn off was, apparently, coming from a new window which was magically opened up and on the myspace page of some band I’ve never heard of. I don’t now how exactly this happened, but I’m blaming Kid Sister.
UPDATE #2: I just did a little fact-checking, and according to Wikipedia, she’s from Illinois and “her ethnic background includes African American, Native American, and Irish.” So basically just scratch everything in this post.
